The material regulator valve is an air-operated sliding valve. It has a tapered needle and specially designed fluid ports that permit precise regulation and rapid response to air command signals. These characteristics are maintained over the full operating range of the regulator valve.

Control of the MVR is achieved through an air pressure control signal generated from the transducer panel. Air pressure against a solvent resistant diaphragm moves the needle up and down across the fluid ports. The tapered seat on the needle, combined with the fluid port configuration, allows fluid flow through the MVR to directly reflect the air pressure control signal. An increase in air pressure results in an increase in fluid flow through the regulator. The flow rate of the material depends on the position of the shaft taper within the valve body
