A very finely preserved copy of an important historical work. The copy owned by King Charles was auctioned by Christie's at over $100,000.00.

Edward Fairfax [1580-1635] was considered perhaps the most influential translator of the 17th century, and his work The Recoverie of Jerusalem, here offered, one of the few translations itself considered an original masterpiece of literature. Fairfax is also remembered for a rare early work on Demonology.

Very attractive original small folio, some rubbing at extremities with slightest losses at extremeties of spine label and hinge leather. Neglibile split at base of hinges. Polished over diminutive label at base of spine. Pastedown bears the 18th century label of William Constable Esq with dragon's head over shield and UBI SPIRITUS IBI LIBERATAS. Elaborately engraved title in superb and crisp condition as is the remainder of the text. A handsome addition to a fine antiquarian collection.
